چکیده

The wide spread of mobile devices in the consumer market has posed a number of new issues in the design of internet applications and their user interfaces. In particular, applications need to adapt their interaction modalities to different portable devices, like cellular phones and handhelds. In this paper we address the problem of defining models and techniques for designing internet based applications that automatically adapt to different mobile devices. First, we define a formal model that allows for specifying the interaction in a way that is abstract enough to be decoupled from the presentation layer, which is to be adapted to different contexts. The model is mainly based on the idea of describing the user interaction in terms of elementary actions, (Atomic Interaction Units, AIU ) that capture the user interaction through the data s/he exchanges with the system. Then, we provide a formal device characterization showing how to effectively implements the AIUs in a multidevice context.

A New Trust Model for B2C E-Commerce Based on 3D User Interfaces

Lack of trust is one of the key bottle necks in e-commerce development. Nowadays many advanced technologies are trying to address the trust issues in e-commerce. One among them suggests using suitable user interfaces. This paper investigates the functionality and capabilities of 3D graphical user interfaces in regard to trust building in the customers of next generation of B2C e-commerce websit...

Epistemically Active Adaptive User Interfaces

An accurate model of the user is one of the most important factors impacting the success of adaptive user interfaces. However, the input information from the user may not be sufficient for construction of accurate user models. We propose epistemically active adaptive user interfaces that initiate subtle interactions with the user in order to collect new information about the user’s state based ...

Human-centric framework for perceptually adaptive interfaces

Multimodal interfaces have long held the promise of enhanced and effective human machine interaction. The ultimate goal of multimodal interfaces is to facilitate human activity allowing seamless exchange of information. This goal requires a coordinated development effort that incorporates a thorough understanding of human perceptual system in the design of interfaces. In this manner, multimodal...

Modeling a User’s Culture

Localizing user interfaces has been proven beneficial for both user satisfaction and work efficiency; however, current localization methods disregard the many facets in the cultural background of today's typical user by simply adapting to a certain country. The chapter proposes a new approach to localization by modeling the user’s culture according to its understanding in cultural anthropology....

A Seamless Development Process of Adaptive User Interfaces Explicitly Based on Usability Properties

This work is aimed at the specification of usable adaptive user interfaces. A model-based method is used, which have been proved useful to address this task. The specification created is described in terms of abstract interaction objects, which are translated into concrete interaction objects for each particular platform. An adaptive engine is also proposed to improve the usability at runtime b...
